The dot SE country-specific TLD was started in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was very restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were secured. Individuals were permitted to book no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was mandatory, i.e. merely Swedish persons, businesses and organizations were able to order a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.
