Dot NAME Domains

Introduced in 2001, the Dot NAME universal domain name extension is the only one supposed to be for personal web pages only. These domain names can include personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are popular by. At first, just 3rd-level registrations were permitted, so if you desired to purchase john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already acquired 3rd-level domain names remained active.
